DevEvening #1

Parallel programming in .net 4 - Alex Mackey (SimpleIsBest.co.uk)
A number of years ago, Microsoft foresaw the importance that multicore processors would come to play and started developing the parallel extensions. In .NET 4.0, Microsoft built on this earlier work and integrated it into the core framework, enabling developers to parallelize their code in an easy and consistent way. In this introduction we will look at why these enhancements are important and how to introduce them into your own applications.

Alex is an experienced ASP.NET/SQL Server consultant who has been working with .NET since version 1.0 (and prior to that ASP & Vb6). Alex is author of Introducing .net 4.0 with VS2010 published by Apress (http://apress.com/book/view/143022455x) and is a C# MVP.
Alex has led development on a number of complex health care applications and has been lucky enough to work around the world in the Middle East, America, Ireland and now Australia. Alex is active in the development community and has spoken at a number of conferences and events.

T4 templates Chris Melinn (chrismelinn.wordpress.com/)

The Text Templating Transformation Toolkit, better known as T4, is a code generation technology developed by Microsoft and is used in several of Microsoft products, such as the “Add Controller” and “Add View” dialogs of ASP.NET MVC.  This session will give an overview of how to use Visual Studio’s built-in T4 technology to generate your own code and other types of text artefacts.   Come see why Scott Hanselman called T4 Visual Studio’s Best Kept Secret!

Chris Melinn is a software consultant specialising in distributed and web-based .NET applications, object-oriented design, refactoring, and agile development methodologies.  He has written code professionally for 15 years and has led international teams in creating large enterprise applications as well as helped start-ups develop new applications in small, focused teams.  Chris is passionate about producing quality code and enjoys the lifelong learning process that comes with being a software developer.

We even have 2 licences of Visual T4's Template editing tool to give away (Pro edition), for more info see: http://www.visualt4.com/
